Alternatives to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7

After the fiasco of the latest technological device by South Korean firm, users have other devices on the market in order to replace and forget the Galaxy Note 7.

After Samsung announced last Tuesday that they were gonna completely  stop the manufacture and sale of its latest device, the Galaxy Note 7 because of the problems of combustion of these terminals, many users are now left without a phone. The South Korean company has sold more than 2 million Note 7’s. Customers now must look for alternatives.

The first of them, and not a bad idea is the fact that you can still trust the brand. Samsung has already made it clear that the battery issues pertain only to Note 7 not the rest of their devices. Therefore, users have at their disposal the Galaxy S7.

These terminals, launched in February, remain the “jewels” of the company. The only difference is almost I’d say… the size (5.1 inches vs. 5.5), then following we have the S6 and S6 Edge.

Curved edges, resistant to water and dust, processor Exynos 890, 4GB of RAM, batteries of 3000 mAh and 3600 (in the case of the Edge), rapid charging system, possibility to expand the memory with MicroSD cards, camera with Dual Pay pixel Sensor and Samsung are some of the S7 features.

Samsung finally suspended the manufacture and sales of the Galaxy Note 7

The South Korean company urges owners of the devices, both the original and replaced, to turn them off and stop using them.

Neither sales nor production, death. One of the most advanced mobile devices has been one of the biggest fiascos…set to be remembered in the industry of consumer technology. Samsung has confirmed on Tuesday the “complete cessation” of production of the smart phone Galaxy Note 7 after repeated problems with their batteries, even in some substitution models that were launched to try to sort out the crisis. This terminal called “phablet” will eventually be discontinued before Samsung meets two months after its release.

The South Korean firm has taken this decision by the continuous security concerns about the risks that exist of possible explosions and ignition in the device. The first consequences are clear: the company’s shares have fallen by 8.04 percent on the Seoul Stock Exchange.

To date more than a hundred cases are estimated, although officially been recognised in about 35 units. “We have recently adjusted the volume of production to initiate a thorough and overall situation research, but we want to make safety of consumers our priority so, we decided to stop the production of the Note 7», say sources in a statement that give no report so far of the full reason for the problem. So far little is known.

“We are working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate  the cases recently reported on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Because consumer safety remains our top priority, Samsung calls on all distributors worldwide to halt sales and program replacements while the investigation is carried out”. “We remain committed to working with regulatory authorities and will take all necessary steps to remedy the situation. Consumers, whether those who own an original Note 7 or a unit that has been replaced must shut it down, stop using the device and benefit from the available solutions”, added the same sources.

The mess was mounted, at first, when Samsung announced the suspension of worldwide sales as well as new phones that served as replacement and began distributing a few weeks ago, while advancing the research on ignition causes affecting devices due to defective batteries. But the crisis has caught fire even causing one of the biggest headaches that are remembered in this industry.

Samsung decided on Monday the willing to start a “temporary adjustment” to ensure that consumer safety was “top priority”. Then they doubted that strategy and now it has been confirmed, they have completely stopped the production. Despite this situation, which could result in losses of more than ten billion dollars in the income statement according to several reports, the South Korean electronics giant has said that are working “diligently” with regulatory authorities to solve the problem. However, the Note family, which debuted in 2011 with an original size and very cutting-edge functionality through the use of a stylus, will quite possibly pass to history.

At the moment the actual extent of the loss for the brand image its unknown and whether consumers will remember in the future this murky episode or forget it. Samsung began selling the phone last August, but in early September announced an unprecedented withdrawal following reports of more than thirty cases of ignition in some terminals in several countries. The recall was followed in mid-September, however, several media have reported that owners have suffered fires in South Korea, the United States and Taiwan.

Last week two of the biggest mobile operators in the United States, AT & T and T-Mobile US, stopped selling new units theoretically unaffected by the fault as five new cases of fire had been reported in that country. In Europe, where sales were expected before October 28th, Vodafone and Orange announced the discontinuation of sales.

The new Galaxy Note 7 will arrive to Europe on October 28th

Samsung urges owners to request a replacement model of this device whose sale had to be canceled after ignition cases were detected.

Samsung has announced that the new mobile devices Galaxy Note 7 revised and with guaranteed security to the technical problems of their batteries, will arrive on October 28 to the European market. The South Korean firm estimated that the replacement program will be completed in early October.

After about 35 documented cases detected, the South Korean firm had to recognise in early September that the batteries of some models had ignition problems. In addition to suspending its marketing on September, which began on August 19th, the company called all Note 7 sold to date for review.

In this regard, Samsung technology has re-emphasised the owners of this phone to replace it as soon as possible. From September 19th until today, 97% of users of Note 7 have benefited from the replacement program in Europe and have chosen replacement for the same model, while 3% have chosen a different smartphone from the Galaxy range.

All European customers who bought the Note 7, according to the brand, received safety messages urging them to qualify to benefit the replacement program, as well as a software upgrade to limit the maximum battery charge to 60% and avoid more cases of ignition. The new devices that are being delivered to consumers have the battery indicator green to differentiate themselves from the first version and a square symbol in the black box.

Rumours about the next iPhone already surrounding the internet

The first rumours about the device of the tenth anniversary point to a radical change.

apple-iphone-7-iphone-7-plus-phone-asylum

It hasn’t been a month since Apple released the iPhone  7 and the online community is already attempting to unravel the possible features to be incorporated in the next version. The name points to iPhone 8, although it is not known if iPhone will remain with the S line. It will be released, if tradition holds, in autumn next year. And it is expected that by then a great revolution occurs as it coincides with the anniversary of the first model that appeared in 2007.

Even without official confirmation from the US company experts predict a significant cosmetic change after three years without updating. And one of the most notorious sections could come from the exterior design and the material used for the creation of it. Therefore, we can expect the new iPhone 8 to have a completely different look.

As recorded by the specializing “9to5Mac” echoed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo KGI Securities signature, known in the scene for his constant Apple discussions- there are many possibilities that one version of the next iPhone is manufactured with a layer made glass style like the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S which was attended by the company founder Steve Jobs before his death in 2011.

These early rumours suggest that the decision to go for this design is because the model shiny black aluminium (Jet Black) from the current iPhone 7, which have proven to be extremely successful among consumers it is likely to get scratched easily and also this model is more difficult to manufacture in large quantities, making the commitment to solve this problem while trying to maintain the design. Specifically, the analyst says that between 45% and 50% of reserves around the world have opted for the Jet Black model.

The report notes that the effect called “glass 2.5 D”, a type of casing with rounded contours and would be more resistant to crashes and will be used. In this way the Apple analysts could double their bets with two types of versions, one aluminum and other, the brilliant glass design. Other sources, in this case an employee of the company’s headquarters in Israel, pointing in the newspaper “Daily Mail” that the iPhone’s tenth anniversary will have a shell of curved glass made of liquid metal kind of pointing to the style of Samsung Edge Galaxy S7.

Another aspect is also a change in dimensions. According to the same expert, Apple will offer a model ‘phablet’, which would rise from the current 5.5 inches to 5.8 inches but lower edges, while the 4.7 inches from the “normal” version is retained. In any case, the American company needs a shock to return to growing sales of its flagship device after several consecutive quarters of losses in different markets. Not yet been confirmed sales of the early days of the most recent, the iPhone 7 as the company, unlike other seasons, has avoided giving figures for fear that these are lower than expected.

BlackBerry plans to keep the QWERTY keyboard alive

The Canadian company confirms that their future phones will come with physical keys despite the decision to abandon domestic production.

If anything has characterised BlackBerry it’s the inclusion of a physical keyboard that stayed in some models even when touchscreens had exploded in the market. Going against everyone and everything the Canadian company said that the QWERTY keyboard formula will remain in future releases despite the decision to stop producing their own phones.

In an interview for the newspaper “Business News Network” BlackBerry CEO John Chen, said “We have to sit with each company to work on a product portfolio, we will be very selective”.

Currently, digital keyboards found on mobile devices with touch screens offer good sensations and are comfortable when typing, even in moments where speed is required for writing. Although no specific date has been set, the company has confirmed new models will definitely be launched with physical keyboard, but may not offer the same traditional design that consumers know well.

At present it is difficult to find mobile phones with physical keyboards. Until a decade ago, this setting was essential, but over the years touchscreens have taken over the industry exercising mechanism of interaction of the functions of mobile devices. Throughout history there have been different types, from the alphanumeric or QWERTY.

iPhone 7, Apple Watch 2 and what Apple might be planning for Sept. 7th

Several rumours strongly point to the presentation of its flagship and most famous product with a new smart watch.

iphone-phoneayslum

Apple had a very clear date: September 7, 2016. In their new “keynote” which will take place at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, the company will present its new products.

Cupertino are characterised by a high secrecy. Although this time they have confirmed with more time than the usual the date of their next appointment, as for what they have prepared nothing is known officially. However, there are already several rumours that strongly point to the presentation of the new iPhone, 7 and 7S, along with a new smart watch. However, the new range of MacBook Pro is almost certainly out of the “keynote”.

In short, there are so many rumours and leaks that we will make a summary of what Apple might be planning for next week.

1. iPhone 7
It is virtually certain that Tim Cook takes the stage of the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium to present the new terminal of the company. In September last year, it was the turn of the iPhone 6 S and 6S Plus. It’s time to renew and is very likely to have the new model, whose characteristics are:

– Two models: iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches.

– Design: there won’t be very big news at first sight so it is likely to again cause the company speculation in terms of basic design, yes they could bring to market two new dark colours the known space Gray and deep blue.

– No headphone jack

– No 16GB model. iPhone 7 lower range would be 32GB followed by 128GB and 256GB (maybe).

– Double camera: no doubt, it would be one of the most remarkable improvements of the new terminal. However, it has been rumoured strongly that only the top model, the 7S, would have the dual camera system.
– Chip A10: The A9 in the iPhone 6S, with 2GB of RAM, was been designed by Apple and is the world’s most advanced chip for now, enabling high performance and speed. We’ll see how the A10 does because it has very high standards.

– Home Button: the new terminal could incorporate system similar to the “trackpad” of the MacBook.

2. Apple Watch 2
– Thinner design: the new smartwatch could incorporate display technology that would help thin the device (currently 10.5 millimeters).

– Battery 334 mAh, which would represent a slight improvement over the previous one.

– With GPS and network connectivity: newest improvements.

– Could be submersible.

3. MacBook Pro
Four years have passed since the company last renewed their devices. Mark Gurman, an Apple journalist specialist who is almost-never wrong, has secured in “Bloomberg” that it won’t be until October when Apple introduces its new MacBook Pro.

And not only that. Cupertino are also working on a new iPad Pro and MacBook Air USB port Type C.

4. Operating Systems
At WWDC 2016, Apple introduced the new iOS 10. It is expected, therefore, that the new iPhone 7 comes with this new operating system with a new display, an interactive screen, new interface, 3D Touch, more widgets, etc.

Sierra macOS also presented for the expected new Mac; watchOS 3 opened to developers last June, so hopefully the new Apple Watch will be true. With that said the new operating system would be available in autumn.

Samsung could start selling second-hand phones

Rumours say the South Korean technology firm is seeking new ways to sustain growth

Samsung plans to change the strategy in order to increase the level of sales. According to Reuters, the phone company intends to include a program that consists of selling used high-end smartphones but with up to date software.

According to company sources, Samsung will launch this new business in order to maintain profit growth following the restructuring of its product line. As the growth in the global market for smartphones has plateaued in general, the South Korean company is showing interest in maximising cost efficiency and maintain operating margins above 10 percent.

The leading manufacturer of smartphones in the world will renew high-end phones that have been returned to the company by users enrolled in the program of annual device update, in markets such as South Korea and the United States.

Samsung, the source said, could re-sell these phones at a lower price, without giving further details. A company spokesman said the company does not comment on any speculation.

Apple, Samsung’s biggest rival, sells models of its iPhone a year after the launch to 69% of their original price, while the Samsung Galaxy model is sold at 51%, according to analysts at BNP Paribas.

The sale of refurbished phones could help manufacturers like Samsung increase its presence in emerging markets such as India, where high-end devices are often beyond the reach of most buyers.

In fact, Apple already sells refurb iPhones in several markets, including the United States, but does not disclose sales figures for this.

Apple set to open a research center in China

Tim Cook announced at a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli, that the company will increase its investment in the second world economy.

apple-china-phoneayslum

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, announced on Monday the opening of a research centre of the US firm in China before the end of this year. Cook gave the news during a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli in Beijing.

At the meeting, it was said that Apple will increase its investment in the second world economy without giving further details, except for the creation of such centre. The space that Apple plans to open will be the first of its kind in Asia and the Pacific.

In a nod to the Chinese Government, the CEO also noted that Apple will participate “actively” in the strategy of the Executive Asian country to use the Internet and other technologies in conventional industries, which Beijing calls “Internet Plus”.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Vice Premier has encouraged other US companies to follow the trail marked by Apple and increase their investment, since, in his opinion, “Cooperation between China and the United States injects dynamism to the economies of both countries and boosts global growth.”

Terry Gou, Foxconn’s CEO, Apple’s main supplier in the country also attended the meeting.

Apple has in China its second largest market behind the United States, and has made investments in different sectors, the last one was no less than 1,000 million dollars to invest in the transport company Didi shared ChuXing, considered the equivalent of Uber in China.

In June, Chinese authorities ordered Apple to stop selling two models of iPhone in Beijing for a case of rape, months after they forced the company to close its services on the iBook Store and iTunes Movies in the country.

The iPhone 7 could be presented on the 7th of September

Foxconn and Apple, according to the latest leaks, are developing a glass casing in order to boost the demand for the new terminals.

iphone-phoneayslum

No day passes in which we don’t get new rumours about the new iPhone that Apple has designed and, as everyone assumes, will be presented in a few weeks. And as we know every September, the Cupertino company present their new products.

According to “Bloomberg” Tim Cook has picked the 7th of September to present the iPhone 7. Although, according to journalist Mark Gurman, they will also be also announcing a new MacBook.

The successor to the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus could come to the market with a completely new design, breaking the previous expectations. In fact, Apple lacks when it comes to innovation in design and it clearly has been one of the biggest criticisms that the company has received in recent years.

New online rumours suggest that the new terminal Apple has prepared and will present in a few weeks will surprise everyone. It should be recalled also that it’s the 10th anniversary of the launch of the first iPhone and Cook would like to celebrate in some special way.

Apparently, Foxconn and Apple are developing a crystal case for their smartphones in order to boost demand for iPhones and become able to face competition, especially Samsung. Let’s not forget that after 13 years, Apple has ended their streak of economic growth as a result of the decline in iPhone sales. They need to reinvent itself.

However, Mark Gurman has said the opposite in another interview on “Bloomberg”. “Models this year will be similar” although “there will be notable tweaks”. The new iPhones hit the market at 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, as before, and will have a “hardware” and improved photographic capabilities.

“The outstanding features will be in the double chamber,” says Gurman, which also confirms the elimination of the headphone jack port.

The new iPhone could incorporate a type system similar to the trackpad of the new MacBook.

By the way, an Apple expert had called “revolution” to what the company has done to their new computers. It’s been four years since Apple last renewed their MacBook Pro. According to Gurman, the devices will be much thinner, with a slight design change (curved chassis), larger trackpad with USB-C ports, improvements to the specifications like graphics and an OLED panel.

Tips and tricks to catch Pokemon and not kill your battery

The success of the new video game arguments the demand for external batteries.

pokemon-go-phoneasylum

Pokémon Go, the phenomenon of the moment. Thousands of people are hooked to the reality game whose objective is to “hunt” virtual Pokemons, but many have noticed that playing it consumes too much battery and mobile data. Like many other widespread applications as the original Facebook, it also has a serious problem: excessive battery consumption.

Like almost every app on the market at the moment the Niantic and Nintendo game requires data to be permanently turned on to locate the pokémons, which causes a high energy consumption. For this reason, depending on the terminal in a couple of hours of use your battery can be eaten more than half.

What can be done? First, it is important to adjust the brightness of the screen. Panels and lighting used in smartphones are the elements that consume more battery power. It is advisable, therefore, reduce these levels with what will be gained in autonomy.

The best advice is to reduce everything we can. Another interesting recommendation is to activate the power saving mode, commonly found within the settings – battery options, although it is true that the application itself already has a particular way of savings. Another tip is to turn off the sound and music this can help reduce consumption and extend therefore slightly battery life.

Increasing demand for external batteries
Pokémon Go has already been downloaded more than 100 million times. It has caused a fever that has made millions of players to take the streets with their phones and “catch ’em all” as soon as possible. This problem occurs when your phone reminds you the battery life is not great in it and you need to start making use of the essential external batteries in order to become a self-respecting player.

In fact, according to idealo.es, since the release of Pokémon Go there has been a dramatic increase in demand for portable batteries  or “power banks”. The impact of Pokémon Go is being brutal, “Smartphones today are not ready to operate at such high performance for many hours straight, so players are increasingly turning to external batteries that allow them to double or even triple the duration of the power of their devices”.
